Obituary: Mr. Tommy Eaton

THE Ballymena area has been saddened by the death recently of Thomas Eaton.

Tommy, as he was known to all, spent the first part of his life in Londonderry and the maiden city remained very much part of him.

It was there that he met Jean and they were married in St. Columb’s Cathedral.

Work brought Tommy and Jean to Ballymena where he started employment with Cantrell and Cochrane as a lorry driver and then moved on to become a sales representative.

Later he was to work in security at the Tower Centre and there he became known to so many in the community. His hearty greetings rang out across the centre and he always had a word for everyone.

Jovial by nature, he was never lost for words and his outgoing personality had a positive effect on many – Tommy’s quick wit and ‘gift of the gab’ brightened up many a weary shopper.

He was very involved in his local church – the Church of Ireland at St Columba’s on the Doury Road. A regular worshipper he loved singing and was a long time member of the choir.

When a fresh expression of worship was launched in the parish Tommy was one of the first to volunteer for the singing group. He was at the heart of the church family serving it in many different ways and will be sadly missed in the church community and in the wider community.

Tommy, who is survived by his wife Jean and son, Graham, was buried at Ballee Cemetery on October 12 following his funeral service in St Patrick’s Parish Church, Ballymena.
