Owen enjoys Scripture Union Camp

Twenty-year-old Owen Wilson enjoyed being an Officer at Scripture Union Camp in Dunbar this summer.

Based at Belhaven boarding School in Dunbar, 20 minutes south of Edinburgh, the camp was organised by SUNI.

The three leaders were Harry Baxter, Joanna McFarland and Collin Kirkpatrick; they were assisted by 23 Officers, who supported 84 campers within the 11-16 age bracket.

This was Owen’s third year helping at Junior Camp, revealing a little about his role this year, The Northern Regional College (NRC) student said: “I held a seminar with three other officers on ‘taking a stand’ and part of the morning study.

“I was one of the pool life guards trained by the camp at Belfast Royal Academy before leaving, and led the morning and evening swim, inflatables, kayaking and raft Building.

“I also interviewed one of the new officers during the evening meeting to share with the group how they came to know Christ as well as being responsible for a dorm.”

Talking about his personal highlights, Owen went on to say: “My favourite part of camp was defiantly the evening meeting where we really saw God at work in the lives of so many young people, inspiring some to come to know Christ for the first time others to get there life on the correct path again and others to pray for whatever was on their heart.”

“I learnt a lot about dorm groups, how to handle a dorm group affectively and make the best use of dorm times.

“It also gave me the opportunity to exercise my faith and freely proclaim the name of Jesus”, the young Rasharkin man added.

Owen will now continue his apprenticeship with Schrader electronics while also attending NRC (Farm Lodge), where he is studying electrical and electronic engineering.

However, he will look back on camp with fond memories and would urge others to get involved too.

“There is something for everyone at Scottish camp, it’s the best camp in my opinion and would encourage anyone between the age of 11-16 to go to either junior or senior camp as a camper. Furthermore if anyone is prepared for an exhausting, challenging yet rewarding experience as an officer and feel God is leading them to do a camp don’t rule out Scottish Camp it will be the best experience.”
