‘Patrick’s Day’ event planned

Christmas it may be but Ballymena Borough Council is looking ahead and already has St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in its sights.

Details revealed to a Council committee last week confirmed that plans are, in fact, at an advanced stage with the annual events and activities held at Slemish Mountain and Ecos scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 17.

Now in it’s 11th year, the 2015 celebrations will cost £12,800 to stage with funding sourced through Council’s Good Relations Department. Catering and Tourism Budget.

The event is once again planned to include the opportunity for people to climb Slemish where St Patrick himself is said to have once herded sheep and to enjoy a programme of entertainment at the Ecos Centre and park.

Coaches will be available to transport visitors from Buckna to Slemish car park at a cost of £1.50 for adults and £1 for children and £2 and £1.50 respectively from ecos.

Refreshments will be available at all three locations and also at ecos visitors can enjoy traditional music and children’s activities from 12noon-4pm.

The committee, which accepted an officer recommendation to hold the event, heard that over 2,500 people are once again expected to climb Slemish Mountain on the day.
