Pensioner to contest causing death on dual-carriageway

A pensioner is to contest a charge of causing death by driving without due care and attention following a collision involving a horse lorry and a car on the Lisnevenagh Road dual-carriageway between Antrim and Ballymena.

Stan Cunningham (67), of Barnfield Road near Lagmore, Lisburn is accused of causing the death of grandfather Peter Donnelly in a collision on October 20, 2015.

Mr Donnelly (62) from Jerrettspass near Newry died in hospital on October 21 following a collision between a blue Leyland Horsebox lorry and a silver Peugeot 308 car. The deceased was driving the car.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday, defence barrister Neil Moore said the matter is to be contested.

The case has been adjourned to December 22.
