“It is now more important than ever that we keep focused and resilient in observing the Public Health Agency and government guidelines so that we can protect ourselves, our families, our neighbours, and our amazing NHS staff”, the Mayor said.

“There are so many people within our community who deserve our respect and appreciation at this time, such as shop staff, food producers, lorry drivers, council staff, delivery workers and postmen and especially community volunteers.

“We are approaching the period when Public Health officials predict there will be a surge in the cases of coronavirus Covid-19, so it is essential that we stay at home and not place our NHS under additional pressure.

“I understand that during times when we would traditionally be looking forward to getting together with friends and family, this will be difficult, but we all have a part to play in helping the doctors and nurses, and all those across the NHS and community care, to lead the fight against this pandemic.

“As we continue to wish the Prime Minister well in his own battle against the virus, I ask you all to stay focused, stay at home, wash your hands often and take care of yourselves and your families.”

The public are reminded that all council owned parks in Mid and East Antrim remain closed to the public in line with government guidance on health protection.
