Sarah Hanna, Student Council President, said: “2020 has been a tough year for us all. As a Student Council we took a collective decision to ensure that elderly and vulnerable members of our local community know that they haven’t been forgotten about.”
Towards the end of November, the Students’ Council contacted businesses in the area to seek their help with the initiative and were delighted with their generosity.

Head Girl, Jasmine McCrory said: “The response we got from the local businesses was beyond our wildest dreams. The generosity that they showed ensured that our Christmas Hamper Appeal was a huge success. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Moby Chip, Cranswick Country Foods, Toast, Maine Bakery, Ashbrook Interiors, TJ Douds and Hayes Bridge Service Station for their generosity in what is a challenging time for businesses across NI.”
Represenatatives of the Student Council delivered the hampers to residents earlier this month.
Head Boy, Adam Wilson said: “It was brilliant to see the joy on the residents’ faces when we delivered the Hampers. It was a privilege to be involved in this and to see the difference this gesture made to the residents.”
Mr McLaughlin, teacher in charge of Students’ Council thanked School Governor, Mrs Hanna, and the businesses who helped with the initiative.

He said: “The Students’ Council have made an amazing contribution to the school and local community this year. They are already planning further fundraising initiatives aimed at supporting the most vulnerable within our society. I am very proud of the work these young people are carrying out. On behalf of the College I would like to extend our thanks to Mrs Hanna, School Governor and the businesses in the local area who made this initiative happen.”
