Police issue advice following spate of burglaries

Chief Inspector Stephen McAuley said: On Wednesday, December 7 several burglaries occurred in Dunfane Park, Old Galgorm Road and Sand Road are of Ballymena, as well as Rossland Park, Broughshane and Beechwood Drive, Ahoghill. Further burglaries then took place on Thursday, December 8 in Drumtara Ballymena, Devenagh Way, Ballymena, Royal Court, Gracehill, and Woodgreen Park, Ballymena.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in these areas or to anyone that may have any information that could assist with enquiries to contact detectives at Ballymena Reactive and Organised Crime on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1003, 1020,1034 and 1128 on 07/12/16 and 644, 726 and 838 on 08/12/16.

“Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Chief Inspector McAuley added: “Burglaries are a violation of the things people hold most dear – the possessions they’ve worked hard to buy and to enjoy as well as the items of sentimental value they cherish.

“I would appeal to property owners not to take security for granted. When you leave the property, make sure all the doors and windows are locked and secure and always keep your keys safe. Always keep your doors and windows locked and ensure you can identify callers before you open the door.

“Alarms - an alarm can act as an excellent deterrent. Without one, your premises will present a more attractive target for burglars than those with a system fitted. It is important that alarm systems are inspected regularly.

“Any measure which householders can put in place to protect their property is a good investment. Local crime prevention officers can also be contacted on 101 for further advice. We will continue to work to help prevent burglary and ensure that it is rigorously investigated if it happens to you. Always call 999 in an emergency.”
