Police seize no cover ‘scrambler’ bikes

TWO scramblers being used locally without insurance have been seized by police in the past week.

A Ballymena PSNI Inspector says they weren’t the first to be lifted and they won’t be the last.

Speaking to The Ballymena Times on Friday, Inspector John Allen said police have a legal right to seize vehicles on such grounds as no insurance or if they are being driven in a manner considered to be anti-social.

“In such circumstances, vehicles can be seized by us and they will be,” he stated.

The Inspector said that officers were currently following up reports of youths riding scramblers on footpaths and other public areas at Millfield.

“This has caused concern amongst people and it is something we are paying attention to,” he said.

“We would appeal to the public to report any such behaviour to us as soon as possible and, where possible, to make a note of the registration of the vehicle being used and pass that on to us,” he said.
