Police warn of new web con trick

A WARNING has been issued by Ballymena police for people to be wary of internet scams involving the sale of motor vehicles.

The advice follows reports of a man trying to buy a motor home from Spain which was advertised for sale on an auction website.

The item was removed from the site and the victim subsequently bought it privately through the internet from the seller who sent a copy of a passport as proof of identity, however, the motor home was never delivered to him.

Police advise that if anything seems suspicious when looking to buy an item then do not carry on with the transaction until the website can be authenticated and do not provide any bank details.

Police also advise people to inspect any vehicle before handing over money and always insist that you get the proper documentation at the same time. It is also useful to avail of an independent check of a vehicle’s history to see if it has been stolen.
