Pothole danger highlighted

Transport NI have promised to repair a '˜serious pothole problem' on Altarichard Road, near Loughgiel within 20 days.

The problem was raised by Sinn Fein councillor Kieran Mulholland who said: “I am pleased inform locals that this pothole will be fixed within a maximum of 20 working days. This is a positive response and hopefully demonstrates that the concerns I raised recently on the time frame for which rural potholes are fixed is being addressed.”

“Rural road users are entitled to the same high quality service that those who reside in urban areas receive.Dangerous rural potholes have not been given the level of priority that they demand in terms of seriousness.”

The councillor added: “There are significant safety implications. Potholes at times cause more serious issues on rural roads given their nature than they do in urban areas and I believe that response times in rural areas have not been up to standard.”

“I will continue to lobby Transport NI to ensure that rural potholes are given the attention required within a reasonable time frame for the safety of all road users. I trust that the issues on the Altarichard Road at present will be addressed adequately within the time frame outlined.”
