£300,000 bill to fix the leaks at ‘ecos’

Decision time is looming ever closer for councillors on whether or not to fork out thousands of pounds of ratepayers’ money to fix the ecos centre’s leaky roof.

Built as an educational tool for renewable energy and as a model of sustainability at a cost of £10m, the ecos centre, it seems, is now anything but.

Members of a Council committee were mixed in their views when they were updated last week on the state of the 14-year-old roof which has developed major leaks.

While Cr Monica Digney labelled it “a white elephant”, Cr James Currie described ecos as “a great achievement” and Cr Tommy Nicholl said he considered it “an asset”.
