The local Committee of Cancer Research UK began fundraising for the charity in 1956. £750,000 was raised through a wide variety of fundraising activities including golf days, vintage car events, coffee mornings, street collections and many more events that have been generously supported by the Ballymena community and beyond.

Committee members, past and present, attended a special dinner in their honour at the Eagle Bar & Grill in Galgorm Castle on 29th October, where they were recognised for years of continuous hard work and commitment to the fight against cancer.

Eileen Moore, Chairperson of the Ballymena Local Committee, said: ““We are very fortunate to have dedicated Committee members who are prepared to give their time and energy to such a worth charity as CRUK. There have been many highlights over the years including celebrity lunches with guest speakers including Edwina Curry, Anne Widdicombe and Kate Adie. More recently, in 2012, we raffled a car and raised £25,000.”

“I would like to thank the generous nature of the people from Ballymena, they’ve always been very supportive of the work that we do, and are the main reason that we have been so successful in making this amazing sum of money.”
