Recognition for PCC’s Healthcare manager

THE Patient and Client Council’s Northern Area Manager was recognised by the Institute of Healthcare Managers at their awards evening in Belfast recently.

Jackie McNeill has led on many patient and public involvement projects including the Rural Voices Report and nine Roadshows held throughout Northern Ireland recently but she was presented with the runner up award in the Developing Manager category for her work specifically with the Young People’s Priorities in Health and Social care project.

Jackie said: “The aim of this project was to give young people (aged 16-21 years) a say in the future of public services and 1253 young people shared their experiences of health and social care with us. The document has been welcomed by many organisations within education and health and social care”

Jackie added: “The young people we were in contact with are now better informed about the work of the Patient and Client Council with nearly 200 of them joining our membership scheme.

“Most importantly, the young people who got involved felt empowered, they used this as a positive platform to share their views directly with key decision makers. The seed has been planted for young people to get involved in health and social care issues.”

Jackie is already leading another major project this time focussing on Urgent Care with the report being launched in 2013.
