Instead, a new red warning sticker will be attached advising them to ensure the lid is closed and featuring a telephone number for Mid & East Antrim Council which householders can contact for advice on how to deal with waste.

Council introduced a new policy of closed bin lids in April, however, a small number of people expressed concerns at refuse bins not being collected and Council agreed to adopt a ‘graduated response’ to the introduction of the policy, to help householders adapt.

A yellow warning sticker was applied to any bins that were presented for collection without the lid being fully closed, advising householders of the new ‘lid closed’ policy.

While the Council continued to collect all bins from mid-April to mid-May this will no longer be the case from Monday when the new red warning sticker system will start.
