Retired Teachers' Association annual general meeting

THE 44th annual general meeting of the Mid-Antrim branch of the Retired Teachers' Association was held in Rosspark Hotel Conference Centre on Tuesday, May 4, when an increased number of members attended.

Branch chairman, Edwin Donaghy, welcomed Des Rawlings (chairman of RTA NI), Robina Atkinson (immediate past chairman) and Canon Stuart Lloyd (guest speaker).

Canon Lloyd gave a very interesting and animated talk about Nepal, providing an insight into the geographical, cultural, social, political and religious aspects of the country.

Mr Rawlings spoke about pensions and delegates heard that pensions had been frozen, that there was a likelihood of a reduction and also that pensions for the next generation could be considerably affected.

Officers were elected for the coming year, as follows - Wilbert Calderwood (chairman), John Stuart (vice-chairman), Peggy Pinkerton (secretary/treasurer), John Stuart (executive representative), Althea Donaghy (honorary auditor); (committee members) Sarah Crowe, Winnie Carson, Bill Clarke, Ed Laird.

The meeting was closed by Mr Calderwood who extended thanks to the two speakers.
