Revealed - planfor solar farm at Ballygarvey

Elgin Energy are holding a public exhibition tomorrow night (Wednesday, September 23), in Ballymena Rugby Club, from 5-8pm to seek opinion on the proposal for a Solar PV farm ahead of submitting a planning application which will include an electricity sub-station, fencing and mounted CCTV cameras.

It is understood the company are seeking to develop on lands located off the Ballygarvey Road. The proposed site will take in some 56 acres and will accommodate approximately 13MW of ground mounted Solar PV panels.

The farm, if it goes ahead, will have a lifespan of 25 years.

During that period it is estimated that it will generate enough electricity to power 3,900 homes every year.

Elgin Energy has already submitted a controversial planning application proposing a solar farm with total generating capacity of 50MW on a 94.9hectare area of agricultural land near Kells which has evoked a dividedreaction in the community.

A spokesperson for the company told The Times: “We will be answering any questions members of the public may have on the proposed development at the meeting in the rugby club.”
