Slight fall in jobless total

The number of people registering as out of work in Ballymena saw a slight decrease in the past month, down 50 claimants.

According to the latest Economic and Labour Market Statistics from the Department of Enterprise, the local claimant count now stands at 971 (May) compared to 1,021 in April.

Wards registering the most claimants for unemployment were Dunclug with 82 (81 in April), Ballee with 75 (81) and Ballykeel with 69 (72 in April).

The ward with the lowest claimant count was Slemish with 11 (10 in April).

Meanwhile, in the Antrim district, unemployment also saw a drop on the previous month with the local claimant count now standing at 755 compared to 783 in April.

Wards registering the most claimant counts for unemployment were Crumlin with 84 84 in May); Springfarm with 69 (82 in April); and Fountain Hill with 55 (57 in April).

The wards with the lowest number of claimants in May were Templepatrick with 15 claimants (14 in April) and Shilvodan with 21 (18 in April).
