Special Memorial Service

The Royal Irish Veterans’ Association are to hold a special service in Ballymena Memorial Park on Saturday, March 14, from 9-10am.

Permission for them to do so was agreed by Council’s Economic Growth and Development Committee last Monday night on the proposal of Councillor John Carson, seconded by Councillor Billy Henry.

The service is being held as part of their Community Festival and Veterans’ Parade being staged in the town and surrounding area on March 13 and 14.

Over 2000 veterans from throughout Ireland, the UK, Germany, France, Denmark, America and Canada are expected to take part in the Parade which, along with the Festival is expected to attract a large number of other participants and spectators.

The event will also celebrate the history of St Patrick’s Barracks and the 31st anniversary of the Royal Irish Rangers being granted the Freedom of the Borough of Ballymena on March 22, 1984.
