St Louis come out on top in BPW Speaking Competition

LOCAL pupils showed they have the ‘gift of the gab’ at the Ballymena Heat of the 2011/2012 Public Speaking Competition for Young People.

Congratulations went to St. Louis Grammar as the overall winner of the Ballymena Heat and therefore qualified to compete with the winners of each of the other five heats in the BPW Northern Final on Saturday 11th February 2012.

BPW Ballymena Vice President Carol Burns welcomed everyone and introduced Philippa Peden the Ballymena BPW Convenor.

Philippa gave a warm welcome to the teams from Coleraine High School, Loreto College and St Louis Grammar School competing in the Ballymena heat, the first of six heats in the Business and Professional Women’s annual Public Speaking Competition.

Five additional heats will be held at venues in Belfast, Portadown, and Dungannon, with a good number of schools participating in this highly competitive competition.

A spell-bound audience enjoyed an extraordinary show of Public Speaking talent from all three schools. The experienced Adjudicators Robin Cherry, Rotha Crawford and Mary Waldron awarded points to Best Speaker, Chairman and Expresser of Thanks, and finally to the Best Team.

Coleraine High School was awarded Best Speaker and Best Chairman awards, while Best Expresser of thanks went to Saint Louis Grammar School.

In summation Robin Cherry, head judge appraised and applauded all three teams, their teachers and not forgetting their parents for the excellent talent demonstrated at this annual

BPW Public Speaking Completion for Young People and wished each and everyone a great future where this type of presentation and audience awareness will serve them well both at University and in the future.
