St Patrick’s social housing allocation starts in September

The 47 units of social housing at the old St Patrick’s Barracks site are expected to be allocated to tenants by the end of this year, it has been confirmed.

The homes are currently undergoing refurbishment by FOLD Housing Association as part of a £3.8 million social housing scheme.

At last Thursday evening’s Planning Committee meeting, Alderman PJ McAvoy said he and other councillors were inundated with queries about when the homes are going to be ready and allocated to tenants.

East Housing Service Manager, Eric Woods said: “I met with FOLD on Tuesday of this week who said they starting to allocate the homes in September and hope to have all 47 by the end of this year.”

Members heard that there is a still a need for a large amount of properties in that area and the old Ballymena Boys and Girls High School site is being looked at.

“We have identified a potential need for a further 250 properties in the area and are looking at the old school,” he added.”
