Suspicious approach to boy (10) in Broughshane

Police are appealing for information following the report of a suspicious approach to a 10-year-old boy in Broughshane on St Patrick’s Day.

Speaking today (Friday), Inspector Alison Ferguson said the incident happened at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, March 17, as the boy was walking along Braidwater Gardens in the village.

She said: “An unknown man approached him and offered him a sweet. When the boy refused to take the sweet, the man grabbed him by the wrist. The boy kicked him and the man fled from the scene.

“The boy was not injured during the incident, however, he was left badly shaken.

“The man involved is described as being quite tall in height, long dark hair, with a small amount of facial hair and a cut on his left ear. He was wearing a black cap, dark glasses, a dark green coat, dark trousers and brown shoes.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact police at Ballymena on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information, without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
