‘Suspicious approach’ to child - police appeal

Police in Ballymena are investigating a report of a suspicious approach to a young boy in the Rossdale area of the town.

Sergeant Elaine Robson said: “At approximately 10.00am on Monday, 3 August an 8 year old boy reported to his parents that as he walked past a van a man asked him if he wanted any sweets. The young boy went into a shop and the male is believed to have then left the area in a small white Citroen Berlingo van. It is believed the man was the only occupant in the van.

“It is believed the man had a beard. I would ask anyone who saw the incident to contact Police at Ballymena on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. I would also appeal to the driver of the van to contact police as he may be able to assist us with our enquires.”
