Teenager had no licence,no insuranceand no MOT

A BALLYMENA man who appeared at last Thursday's sitting of Ballymena Magistrate's Court on motoring offences has been warned not to get behind the wheel of a vehicle again "without having all the necessary documents".

He was Barry Speirs, (18), of Kinhilt Street.

Speirs faced the court, sitting in Antrim, on three charges of driving without insurance, three charges of driving without a licence and one of not having a vehicle test certificate.

The offences occurred on three dates between November 2009 and February 2010.

A solicitor for Speirs told the court: “He simply can’t help himself” but added that his client had recently tried to turn his life around.

District Judge, Mr Desmond Perry stated he would take the “rather unusual” step of deferring sentence and did so until March 10, 2011.

“I could send you to a Young Offenders’ Centre for a fair bit of time,” he told Speirs, adding: “If you get behind the wheel of a car without all the necessary documents you will, in March next year, be going to a Young Offenders’ Centre”.
