Top honours for Clough Lodge stalwart James

A long serving member of Clough LOL 1096 was honoured by his fellow brethren last week.

Bro. James McKay, who has given more than six decades of service to the Lodge, received a special presentation from WDM Bro Stephen Anderson on the occasion of his retirement as Lodge secretary - a post which had served for some 50 years.

James also has a proud association with the band, which he helped found in 1952, Clough Young Conquerors - now known as Clough True Blues Flute Band.

The 88-year-old taught in the band for many years and remains active in it.

“We’re always open to new recruits,” he says.

“The band is good for the village and gives the young people something to do,” added James who has been its honorary president for the past 10 years.

Lodge Chaplain, Bertie Johnston, started in the band two years after its formation in 1952 and was taught by James who, he says “will always be there while he’s able”.

And James confirmed that while he has stepped down as secretary of the Lodge, he will continue to be a dedicated member of Clough LOL 1096.
