University pays a visit to NRC art students

STUDENTS at the Northern Regional College, Ballymena Campus studying for a qualification in Art & Design were given the opportunity to hear at first hand the opportunities Heriot Watt University has to offer students interested in a career in textiles and the design industries.

Dr Lisa Macintyre, School of Textiles and Design, Heriot Watt University provided the informative talk to students on study, research and employability options within Textiles and Design. The course in Fashion Technology, offered by the University is taught in the Scottish Borders Campus, in Galashiels. Graduates from this course have progressed into work with fashion and interior design companies, such as Jasper Conran, Calvin Klein, Shanghai Sales, Morton Young and Borland, Niki-Jones.co.uk, All Saints, Missoni, Eribe Knitwear, Lochcarron of Scotland, Zoffany, Benetton, Johnstones of Elgin, Marks and Spencer, Hallmark cards, ClareNicolson.com, Texcraft, Holland and Sherry, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren.

Darlene Hagan-Bezgin NRC’s Senior Lecturer in Art & Design commented that “Our links with Higher Education Institutions are very strong and we were delighted that Dr Lisa Macintyre, School of Textiles and Design at Heriot Watt University took the time to come and visit the college.

The students were able to gain information on Higher Education and explore courses available to them. They were also given the opportunity to develop their understanding of the commercial environment, careers and pathways open to artists and creative designers today.”
