THE villages of Cullybackey, Grange and Portglenone have been left spick and span after a Community Clean Up Day on Saturday, facilitated by Bann Maine West (BMW).

Grange Cross Community Association was one of the groups that took part in the event, which ran from 10am-12noon.

The Association play a key role of liaising with local people and organizing events and activities for all those living in their area.

Member Dessie Dixon, who is also a committee member of Bann Maine West, said: “We were delighted that our community took part.

“This resulted in much cleaner streets with a bit of fun along the way. It’s great that so many people are taking a pride in their area; young and old.”

In response to the Government ‘Big Spring Clean’ initiative, the villages of Ballymena West decided to come out and show their commitment to keeping their areas clean.

The event also enjoyed the support of Ballymena Borough Council who provided equipment needed for the day.

Ever emerging shocking statistics are prompting more and more people to think about the cleanliness of the areas in which they live.

Money spent to clean up waste steadily rises and surveys also show that streets have become dirtier over the last four years and that the problem of dog fouling has increased five fold.

Bann Main West were conscious of the fact that the community should take pride in their villages and were delighted that so many people took part on Saturday.
