The theme was an Irish Night and after enjoying a lovely meal of Irish Stew followed by desserts and tea, members of the McCloskey family from Portglenone entertained with songs, playing tunes on the harp and tin whistle and the dancing of reels and jigs.

The Irish theme continued with the singing of some favourite songs such as ‘When Irish Eyes are Smiling’ and ‘If You’re Irish Come into the Parlour’ which were performed by members of the Women’s Institute, otherwise known as ‘The Cullybackey Choristers’.

A lively leprechaun made his appearance and caused much amusement when dancing with some of the ladies.

After the visitors had departed a business meeting took place.

It was an emotional end to the evening when such heartfelt sorrow and sadness was expressed by the Institute members on the passing of past President Eileen Wylie and a minute’s silence was observed in her memory.

During her time in Cullybackey Eileen endeared herself to all with her pleasant and inspirational manner and she will be greatly missed by all in the Women’s Institute and further afield.
