Waterfowl project update

THE plan to create a Waterfowl & Wildlife Centre in Broughshane has flown a little nearer realisation.

At their latest monthly meeting, last Monday night in The Braid, Councillors confirmed their “in principle” agreement for the proposal after being given a progress report by their chief executive, Anne Donaghy. Mrs Donaghy said that agreement “in principle” could be given by members subject to the Broughshane group’s agreement of an amended clause in the lease relating to the transfer of lands, and RDP (Rural Development Programme) funding being in place. She also told members that the required Zoo licence from DARD had been granted and received.

She added that the matter would be brought back to the August meeting of Council when members would have the opportunity to consider giving the scheme full permission on confirmation that the lease had been signed and funding sorted.

It is understood the project aims to create a protected habitat for birds and other wildlife, with viewing platforms, through the development of an overgrown pond area in the village.
