Alderman Tommy Nicholl says Cullybackey residents will be “over the moon” that movement is being made on a long awaited scheme to improve the junction at the Cullybackey Road/Woodtown Road.
His comment came at a Council committee meeting last week when members were made aware of a notice of intention by the Department of Regional Development to make a vesting order to acquire certain lands necessary for the £470,000 scheme which will result in the creation of a staggered junction.
Ald Nicholl described it as “a long awaited scheme” having been first mooted in Council back in 1981, adding, “since then there has been quite a number of accidents. The sooner there is something done about this crossroads the better”.
“The people out there have been at me often to have something done so I’m glad to get it to this stage. The people who live there will be absolutely over the moon” he added.
