Willie wins obesity battle to walk daughter down the aisle

A Ballymena man has battled ill health and resulting obesity to become a star slimmer - so he could walk his daughter down the aisle.

Two years ago Willie Selwood was virtually housebound and plagued with recurrent sickness having narrowly escaped death after kidney failure.

But when he saw the changes to his wife’s lifestyle after she had joined the ‘We Slim Together’ group at the Michelin Athletic Club, Willie decided it was time he battled back to better health,

Since joining on August 30 last year, Willie’s life has changed beyond recognition. He had also been a medication managed type 2 diabetic but the condition is now treated simply through healthy eating.

Willie now helps out with the housework, has enjoyed a few weekend trips away and takes part in the pilates group available at his ‘We Slim Together session’ each week.

But the primary motivation for Willie’s successful weight loss was his desire to walk daughter Rachel down the aisle at her wedding in August.

Sonya McAllister, founder of We Slim Together said: “He will be able to do this now and his wife and family are all so proud of him. In his wife Isabel’s words ‘We Slim Together has saved our family’. Willie has gone from a XXXXL in jumpers to an XL and from size 48 to 36 in jeans. He has lost 4 &1/2 stone in 8 months and has gained better health and a life in return.”

Willie’s efforts also led to him receiving a ‘Star Slimmer winner & Special Achievement’ joint award at a black tie dinner in the Dunsilly Hotel earlier this month.

The night also raised over £3653, which will go to help patients suffering with Breast Cancer in Northern Ireland through the Pretty’n’Pink charity.
