As fast food chains around the UK begin to tentatively open their doors back up to customers for delivery and takeaway services, most have had to do so with a limited menu.

McDonald’s is no different - but now it has been revealed that some missing fan favourites are making their way back onto the menu from next week.

What’s coming back?

Taking to Twitter, the official McDonald’s account revealed it will be reintroducing six main menu items that customers have been missing.

These items are:

  • Milkshakes
  • Mayo chicken
  • Bacon mayo chicken
  • Hot chocolate
  • Happy meal organic milk
  • Bacon double cheeseburger

These will be available for hungry customers to purchase from 11am on Wednesday 8 July.

In the tweet announcing the news, the company said, “As we continue to adapt to the social distancing and safety measures in our kitchens and service areas, we will constantly review what we’re able to sell and hope to reintroduce more items later in the summer.”

Bringing breakfast back

As well as main menu changes, McDonald’s also revealed that the beloved breakfast menu is coming back, albeit at a limited range.

Paul Pomroy, CEO of McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said, “Following a successful first week of the pilot, I am delighted to announce that on Wednesday, July 8, we will extend breakfast service to over 1,000 restaurants.”

The breakfast menu items coming back are:

  • Bacon roll
  • Hash brown
  • Double sausage and egg McMuffin
  • Sausage and egg McMuffin
  • Bacon and egg McMuffin
  • Double bacon and egg McMuffin
  • Egg and cheese McMuffin
  • Cheesy bacon flatbread
  • Pancakes and sausage
  • Pancakes and syrup

However, the chain added, “Sorry, for now we don’t have wraps, bagels or porridge.”

Not all McDonald’s branches are open to the public yet, and not all branches provide all services either, so the best way to know what your local McDonald’s has on offer, and its opening hours, is to use the McDonald’s restaurant locator.

Online reaction

The news of McDonald’s expanding its menu has been welcomed by fast food fans on social media.

Replying to the announcement on Twitter, one person wrote, “THERE IS A GOD.”

Another tweeted: “I’ve been dreaming of a McDonald’s banana milkshake for so long”, with a crying GIF attached that reads “thank you”.

“Finally, just in time for payday,” another Twitter user wrote, with an emoji of the praise hands.
