Academy begin Schools’ Cup defence this weekend

BALLYMENA Academy begin their defence of the Northern Bank Schools’ Cup this weekend.

It seems like only yesterday that the Galgorm Road side were parading the famous trophy around the streets if Ballymena after winning the silverware for the first time in 29 years with a 10-7 win over BRA.

Eleven months on and the road to Ravenhill begins again in earnest for John Andrews’ side.

With nine of last year’s panel still at the school, Ballymena Academy will again be among the favourites to win the trophy, the showpiece final of which takes place on St Patrick’s Day.

Royal School Armagh will stand in their way this Saturday and while Ballymena will undoubtedly be favourites, they won’t take the Orchard County side lightly.

“There has been a good buzz around the school and everyone is looking forward to the start of another Schools’ Cup campaign,” said head coach Andrews.
