Ballymena bowlers celebrate international call-ups

Ballymena Bowling Club is celebrating after three of its players received international call-ups this week.

Steven Shields, Andrew Kyle and Nigel Robinson have been selected to represent the Irish Bowling Association at this year’s British Isles Bowling Council International Series to be held in Dublin on 29th & 30th June 2013.

Jim Baker is also the Irish Team Manager so Ballymena will play a major role in this year’s Series.

Shields, at 21 is the youngest of the Ballymena contingent, but has been involved in the Irish set-up already.

He is a brother of current World Indoor Singles champion Stewart Anderson while Steven is a previous Irish under-18 and under-25 singles champion.

He is also a current Irish pairs champion, a title which he won with his Irish team manager and Ballymena club-mate Jim Baker.

Andrew Kyle (34), previously played for his hometown team Larne but made the switch over Shane’s Hill a few years ago.

He is a previous Irish pairs winner and won the Irish triples title last year along with JR Nicholl and Steven Coleman.

Andrew will make his debut for Ireland at the international series and he will be joined by another ‘new cap’ Nigel Robinson.

A lifelong member of Ballymena Bowling Club, Nigel also currently holds the position of President of the Old Ballymoney Road-based club.

He is a previous Irish fours winner.
