Ballymena swimmers excel in Ulster age group championships

IT was a busy weekend of swimming for Ballymena Swimmers at the Ulster Youth and Age Group Championships held in Lisburn last weekend.

Zara-Jane Melody who has only been swimming competively for two years and had done extremely well to qualify for these championships finished 13th in the 100m Breaststroke and obtained an Irish Division 2 Championship Qualifying Time.

Rachael Lennox knocked 3 seconds off her Personal Best and finished 10th in the 100m Backstroke and achieved a Swim Ulster Academy Qualifying Time and a Qualifying Time for the Irish Division 2 Championships.

Roisin Ferris finished 14th in the 100m Freestyle and swam a fantastic race to finish 4th in the 100m Breastroke knocking 4 seconds off her Personal Best and gaining an Irish Division 1 Qualifying Time and maintained her time for the Swim Ulster Academy.

Claudia McKernan, who was recovering from an ankle injury, which has only let her return to training last week, swam an excellent 100m Breaststroke, taking 2 seconds of her Personal Best, making it through to the finals and finishing 8th. Claudia also obtained an Irish Division 1 Qualifying Time.

Amy Barr knocked 7 seconds off her 200m Individual Medley finishing 13th, she was 5th in the 200m Breaststroke knocking 10 seconds off her entry time and achieved an Irish Division 2 Qualifying Time, Amy finished 6th in the 100m Breaststroke taking an unbelievable 8 seconds off her Personal Best, achieving a Swim Ulster Academy Qualifying time and an Irish Division 1 Qualifying Time.

Finally, Erin Barr who swam an incredible 200m Individual Medley taking 12 seconds of her Personal Best which she swam just a few weeks ago at the Valentines Qualifying Gala, finishing 5th.

She also achieved 4th place in the 200m Breaststroke shaving 3 seconds off her time and gaining an Irish Division 1 Time. Erin then made it through to the finals and finished 5th in the 100m Breaststroke taking 4 seconds of her Personal Best and gaining a Swim Ulster Academy Qualifying Time and an Irish Division 1 Qualifying Time.
