Better last six hole tally sees Mailey claim victory at Galgorm Castle

In Division 1 Wilson McVeigh (6) opened briskly with two pars and an eagle to lead by one point from Stephen Mailey (5) (bogey, par, eagle) and Billy Cull (3) (two pars and a birdie).

Mailey drew level with McVeigh at the next with Cull in close attendance a point behind. Mailey parred the fifth to take a one point advantage over McVeigh (par). Cull (par) was a further point behind.

Mailey bogeyed the penultimate hole and was joined by McVeigh with Cull moving up to within a point of the leaders.

All three players parred the hole leaving Mailey and McVeigh level with Cull a point behind. Mailey was the Division winner with a better last six. Cull took second place a point behind as McVeigh won the Gross.

Another brisk beginning to Division 2 as Gerard Lynn (8) opened with a par and two birdies to take a two point lead over David Kilpatrick (9) (three pars) with Colin Thompson (8) (two bogeys and a birdie) another point behind. Neil Fitzsimmons (6) (bogey, par, bogey) was a further three points behind.

Through Broadmeadows Lynn was ahead by two points from his nearest challenger Thompson who had moved a point clear of Kilpatrick. Fitzsimmons was still hanging in a further two points adrift.

Lynn finished par, double bogey, par to win by three points.

There was a scramble for second place between Thompson, Kilpatrick and an improved Fitzsimmons. Thompson came home bogey, double bogey, par; Kilpatrick (three bogeys) and Fitzsimmons three pars as they finished together and Fitzsimmons with a better last six took second place.

Through the Trout Hole in Division 3 Ian Henry (11) held a narrow one point advantage over Brian Sims (9) who in turn was two points in front of Samuel MacDonald (10). Another point behind came Trevor Galloway (10) and John Fitzgerald (10) (‘ding’ at the first) followed by George Simpson (9) (‘ding’ at the opening hole) and Ashley Graham (14) (‘ding’ at Lillyvale) one and two points respectively further behind.

Through the Treasury Henry was still leading by one point from Sims as the rest of the field closed up.

Two points behind the leader came MacDonald, Fitzgerald and a much improved pair, Simpson and Graham. I.Henry improved his lead to three points over the closing two holes with a par, bogey finish.

What a race for second place with six players finishing together! - Sims (double bogey, bogey), MacDonald (two bogeys), Fitzgerald (par, double bogey), A.Graham (bogey, double bogey), Simpson (par, double bogey) and T.Galloway (par, bogey) and with a better last six second place was taken by A.Graham.

Twos were recorded by – G.Jackson, P.Galloway, P.Hughes, Jordan Millar, O.Smith, G.Crabbe and A.Moore.

BACK NINE

Through the Maple Ralph Clarke (11) was leading by a point from Thomas McNeill (5). Eric Boyce (12) and John McFarland (10) were a further point behind followed by Aidan McNeill (8) another four points adrift.

Up the Grove a new leader emerged. McFarland with a run of three pars moved into a one point lead from Clarke (par and two bogeys).

McFarland finished par, double bogey and was joined by Boyce (bogey, par) and with a better back six first place went to Boyce with McFarland second.
