Bike spectators to benefit from reduced admission prices at Easter event

MINDFUL of the fact that the current economic situation means that people simply don’t have a lot of spare cash, the MCRRC reduced their Easter meeting entry fees for riders to £60 per race a couple of weeks ago.

On the back of this they have taken the decision to further reduce prices, this time to the benefit of spectators.

This is bound to go well with the normal man in the street. Last season the cost of admission to race meeting was about £10 for a full day’s sport. At the minute it costs something like £10 to get into an Irish League football match. Thats about one and a half hour’s entertainment.

For Bishopscourt on Easter Saturday spectators will be able to avail of an admission of just £5, which includes a race programme. This is to attempt to make it a more attractive day out for families.

With practice getting under way at 9am and the days racing maybe not done till 5pm, thats a great value day out. During the day the 37th running of the Enkalon Trophy race will take place.

NEW CODE OF PRACTICE

As i write this on Monday morning, I have had a document forwarded to me from Willie Crawford, the secretary of the Irish Motorcycle Photographers Association.

Obviously given the paper’s deadline I haven’t had time for a close read at it as yet, but it looks like the spectator areas that I mentioned a couple of weeks ago look to become mandatory.

Part of the document says that clubs will be responsible for providing areas, with a slope of less than 34 degrees, for people to watch racing. There’s also mention of grandstands etc as well. I will have a closer read before next week.

TRAINING DAY THIS SUNDAY

I’m hoping to get a run to Kirkistown this Sunday to the second of the MCUI race schools. The first one, held a couple of weeks ago, was rained off, after the track became awash due to heavy rain.

I hear on the grapevine that anyone who paid to take part in the first school will have this weekend for free, due to the fact that no bikes were able to get out on track. It makes me wonder why the MCUI are so unforthcoming with information.

Why were media and riders not told of this? I had a rider ring me at the start of last week to ask what was happening. I told him to ring the MCUI official who organises the school.

BALLYMONEY BIKE SHOW

The 15th Ballymoney Motorcycle Show will be held in the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre on Friday and Saturday, 1st and 2nd March. A number of riders, including Ray McCullough, Trevor Steel, Adrian Craig, Paul Robinson, Sam Dunlop, Barry Davidson and Jeff Shaw will all attend.

SHANE CUP TRIAL

Just a quick reminder that the Mid Antrim club are hosting the Shane Cup trial this weekend.

The normal venue, Parkmore Forest is unavailable due to the larch tree disease, so the club have taken the decision to move the event to Shilnavogy Hill, near Broughshane.

The event gets under way at 11am.
