The NI Open has supported local charities every year and Cancer Research UK is vital in the ongoing pursuit of finding a cure and saving lives for a disease that affects so many.

Statistics show that cancer will affect one in two people in our lifetime.

Danielle Sheridan, Cancer Research UK Local Fundraising Manager, said: ‘We are delighted to be the chosen charity for the NI Open this year.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for us to be associated with such a large local event and it is a great boost for our Ballymena Local Committee who have been fundraising for almost 60 years now.

“Without events like this and supporters like the Ballymena committee we couldn’t continue to fund our world class research.”

Christopher Brooke from Galgorm Castle is delighted the NI Open can play its part.

“Cancer will affect one in two of us in our lifetime with one person every hour in Northern Ireland being diagnosed with cancer and the NI Open team are all the more determined to help raise funds for research into curing this disease,” said Brooke.

“The NI Open promises to be a wonderful festival of golf for all the family. With over 40,000 spectators expected through the gates during tournament week, we are confident of raising a significant amount for our designated charity.”

The NI Open gets underway at Galgorm Castle from Thursday, July 28-31 and is FREE to enter by simply registering online at niopen.golf.

The week-long festival of golf includes One Direction’s Niall Horan and other stars playing in the Wednesday (27th July) Pro-Am; the dedicated Food Festival, art exhibition from golf portrait specialist Mark Robinson, Fun Golf Area and NI Open Village.

An event donation will also be made to Irish Autism Action.
