Closely-contested finish sees Reid emerge victorious at Galgorm Castle

There was a very tight finish to Division 1 with three players level after the back nine.

Lyle Foster (4) and one of his fourball Stephen Mailey (4) opened with two pars each to lead by one point from Matthew Reid (3) (bogey, par). Reid parred the par three twelfth to join Foster (bogey) and Mailey (bogey).

The three players parred the Grove but with a shot advantage Foster and Mailey moved one point ahead of Reid.

Foster and Mailey parred the eighteenth and were joined by M.Reid with a birdie. Reid with a better last one was the winner with Foster and Mailey tying for runner-up.

Graham Simms (6) went through Arthurs Seat two points clear of Derrick McClelland (7) in Division 2. John Caulfield (9) and Michael Nesbitt (6) were another point behind and they were followed by Ian Stewart (8) and John McClintock (7) at two and three points respectively further behind. Simms was still two points ahead of McClelland through Beechers. Caulfield and Nesbitt were a further two points down with Stewart and McClintock a further point in arrears. Simms finished bogey, par, bogey to win by two points from Stewart (par, birdie, bogey).

Through The Maple in Division 3 Peter McHugh (14) was one point ahead of Cecil McAleese (11) with Ian Manson (9) another two points behind. McHugh was still one point clear of McAleese approaching the Lowlands with Manson a further point behind. McHugh came home strongly with two pars to win by three points from McAleese (bogey, par). Steven Penney (scratch) won the gross prize with 19 points.

Twos were recorded by: B.Cull, M.Dunlop, C.Cooke, A.Steele, M.Nesbitt and E.Wylie.

FRONT NINE

Through the Niuc Joe Barr (8) was a point ahead of David Halliday (4) with Geoffrey Marshall (8) a further two points back. Halliday parred Broadmeadows and joined Barr (double bogey) in the lead with Marshall three more points adrift. Barr ‘dinged the next to fall two points behind Halliday (par). Halliday was the overall winner by two points after finishing with two pars from Barr.
