Commonwealth Games: No medal joy for local competitors

BALLYMENA'S competitors drew a blank in their quest for Commonwealth Games glory.

Shooter Kirsty Barr literally could not have been any more close without actually landing a medal.

The Shankbridge woman and partner Debbie Bader finished fourth in the ladies’ trap competition, agonisingly missing out on a bronze medal to Canada on countback.

Kirsty and Debbie’s performance equalled the existing Commonwealth record, which was broken by winners Australia and runners-up England.

In the women’s singles trap, Kirsty finished in 17th place.

There was disappointment too for All Saints boxer Steven Donnelly, who had the misfortune to be drawn against highly-rated Australian Luke Woods, losing by 10 points to zero.
