Conor stars at NEBSSA qualifiers

FIT N Running’s gifted junior athlete Conor McQuillan produced a blistering front running display to claim a resounding victory in the 1500 metres at the County Antrim NEBSSA heats.

Conor’s gun to tape victory saw him slash 19secs off his previous best for the distance to cross the line in 5mins 35secs.

This performance was good enough to see him through safely to the next round of the NEBSSA schools athletics event.

The 14 year old, a pupil at the Ballymena Academy, was also in action in the 800 metres where he claimed a good 3rd place finish with another personal best, this time clipping 13 secs off his previous best to finish in 2mins 31secs.

He then linked up with his Academy team mates to claim his second victory of the day as Ballymena Academy romped to success in the 4 x 100 meters relay.

Conor, who has been running less than a year, has been a member of local club Fit N Running since January.

Meanwhile club training continues as usual. Training times are as follows Monday and Tuesday evenings 6.15pm and Saturday morning 9.15am. All the sessions are at the Michelin Athletic Club.
