Warrenpoint had the majority of possession in the opening exchanges of this game and took the lead when a Carniny defensive mistake allowed a Warrenpoint player to score. Carniny came more into the match and Peter Rankin who was having a very good game as a lone striker will feel disappointed that he didn’t convert a couple of chances.

The second half began much the same as the first with Warrenpoint having more possession but finding the Carniny defence with central defenders Curtis McVeigh and Matthew McComb giving little away and restricting Warrenpoint to long range shots which were ably dealt with by Gareth Kealey in the Carniny goal.

A tactical change also saw Stephen Greer and Conor Doherty becoming more influential in midfield. Carniny were hit with a sucker punch when from a counter attack Warrenpoint scored their second of the night. Warrenpoint went on to score another goal near the end to run out 3-0 winners.

Under 19

Carniny Youth 1 – Ards Youth 3: Carniny fell behind to two defensive errors in the first fifteen minutes which cost them dearly after conceding two goals past the hapless Shannon in goal for the Ballymena ‘reds.’ Carniny didn’t lie down and on the half hour they could have scored when Price fired wide. Just before the interval Carniny did pull one back when Price rose highest to head home.

The second half saw Carniny press more and Agnew could have had a hat trick of goals with easy chances missed. Balmer and Millar also missed good chances and as captain Jaworski drove his side home as they dominated possession they were hit a sucker punch when a speculative shot squeezed below Shannon into the net to put Ards 3-1 up which ended up the final scoreline.
