Double NI title success for karate ace Jade

JADE Lamont was the star local performer as members of Chujo Karate Association participated in the Northern Ireland Karate Board Annual Championships in Banbridge at the weekend.

Jade, a member of the Seven Towers Leisure Centre Club, is now a double Northern Ireland champion after taking gold in both the Individual Kata and Individual Sparring events.

Her Seven Towers clubmates Laura Burns and Andrew O’Neill are also new Northern Ireland champions after winning gold in the Individual Kata event.

Members of CKA clubs based in Portglenone Community Centre, Coleraine Leisure Centre, Seven Towers Leisure Centre Ballymena and Joey Dunlop LC had entered Ind Kata and Kumite events and won a medal total of 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 5 Bronze.

Other local winners included:

Conall Mc Erlean (Portglenone Community Centre Club) - Bronze Medal in Individual Kata Event.

Brian Divine (Portglenone Community Centre Club) - Silver Medal in Individual Sparring Event.

Andrew O’Neill (Seven Towers LC club) - Silver medal in Individual Sparring event.

Jamie Surgeoner (Seven Towers LC club) - Bronze medal in Individual sparring event.
