Double win for Ollie at Nutts Corner

LOCAL man Ollie Gilmore wrapped up an impressive double in the Production Car class at Nutts Corner Raceway.

Davy McDowell Senior made a comeback in the class and took an early lead in the final. Paul Nesbitt, also back at the wheel, was in second.

Gilmore was soon up the pack and went past McDowell and Nesbitt like a flash. Richard Taylor was next up and he soon wrestled the third spot from McDowell and later went past Nesbitt for second.

It soon became a two horse race between Gilmore and Taylor. Both diced side by side and they then tangled and went off but Gilmore got back in quickly while Taylor returned well down the pack.

Gilmore soon regained all his lost ground and went on to win impressively ahead of Taylor, Nesbitt, McDowell, Stephen Stewart, Martin Hughes, Billy Finnegan and Colin Blake. Gilmore lifted the heat win ahead of McDowell and Hughes.

Graham Fegan powered his way through the pack to victory in the F2 Stock Car final.

David Nesbitt took up the lead in the opening laps but a race stoppage early in the race lost him his leading margin. Andy Stewart was in second but it was Fegan who now was on his rear bumper and soon overhauled him to go second. A few laps later Fegan had ground down the leader Nesbitt and went past into the lead.

Christopher Kincaid was next to make a move rushing up to go second. Nesbitt was still hanging on in third with Denver Grattan easing his way into fourth.

Fegan had no trouble as he went on to take the chequered flag ahead of Kincaid, Grattan, Gavin Fegan, Ryan McCrory, Andy Stewart and Jeff Minish. Conor Hughes who was placed runner up had an off and should have finished down the pack.

Graham Fegan opened his account for the day with a win in the first heat ahead of R McCrory and Kincaid, Heat two went R McCrory with Fegan second and Kincaid again third.

Sean McFerran was in top form in the Junior Rods with a double success with his best performance in the final.

James Steele in his new car headed them off in the final. Daniel Shannon was next placed with McFerran moving quickly into third. Shannon soon got his nose in front but after a close battle with McFerran he was demoted to second.

The remainder of the race was between McFerran and Shannon who were a good half lap ahead of the rest of the drivers. McFerran held on and went on to a super win with Shannon a close runner up. Bradley McKinstry, Calvin Blake, Marc Morrell, William Donnell, Steel, Jack Kennedy, Niall McFerran and LouiseDonnell were the other finishers.

McKinstry look the win in the opening heat ahead of Shannon and S McFerran.

McFerran clinched heat two from W Donnell and Morrell.

The Southern Irish drivers were out in force in the Rookie Bangers but it was the local lads that did all the winning.

Sam McKinstry came out on top in the final having secured a front row grid position. His brother Adrian, Brian Mullan and Mark Cairns were all to the fore battling hard for the top positions.

There was plenty of excitement with side by side racing and crashes. S McKinstry managed to keep out of trouble and went on to claim the winning trophy. Gavin Muldey ended up in second and Robbie Browne finished in third.

Richie Brown had his first ever win in the class with a super drive in the opening heat winning ahead of S McKinstry and Brian Mullan. The other heat went to S McKinstry holding off A McKinstry and William Bingham for the honours.

The Double Decker final was won by local man John McCreight and Richard Harper claimed the first prize in the figure of eight Car and Caravan Demolition Derby.
