Fantastic turnout and superb throwing in league individuals

The Ballymena, Harryville and District Darts League, sponsored by Mid Antrim Blinds, held their Individual competitions on Friday night.

Over 100 players took part and the entire night was a roaring success. A special thanks to hosts Michelin Club for their hard work and effort.

DIVISION ONE

A fantastic turnout of 57 throwers took part. Board 1 saw Leonard McKeegan defeat Johnny Cree and Ashley Rainey defeat Andy Martin before Ashley won the board final 3-1 to reach the last four.

On board 2, John Elder defeated David McFall and Denis Gault beat Geoff Wylie before John won the board final 3-1. Board 3 saw Gabe Kerr beat Jason Mooney and Roy Gilchrist beat Stevie McIlroy, and followed that by defeating Gabe 3-0.

Board 4 witnessed Colin Reid beat Alan Penny and Ricky Dunlop beat Ian Rainey. Ricky took the last semi-final spot with a 3-1 win over Colin.

The first semi-final saw Ricky Dunlop claim a 3-1 victory over Roy Gilchrist in a game which could have gone either way. The second semi-final saw John Elder surge through with a 3-1 victory over Ashley Rainey to set up an all Drifters final in which Northern Ireland international Elder had a comfortable 4-0 win.

DIVISION TWO

There was another good turnout, with 43 players vying for the crown. Board 1 saw David McConaghie overcome Stephen Purdon and Daniel Thompson defeat Danny Balmer. In the board final Daniel convincingly overcame David.

Board 2 saw Lee Balmer defeat John Nicoletti and Frank McDowell defeat Alan Mills to progress. On board 3, George Foster won against Paul Henson and Neil Marshall overcame Junior Cushenan. In the board final, George Foster defeated last year’s champion to progress. On board 4 Robert Beggs beat Cameron Horner and Davy McFall beat Paul Adams. In an all Fountain Arrows board final, Robert Beggs defeated David.

The first semi-final saw McDowell power through with a 3-0 win over Thompson, and the second saw a Fountain derby where Beggs enjoyed a 3-0 win over Foster. The final was close early on; however with the match balanced at 2-2, Robert claimed the next two legs for victory. Irene Lowry won the ladies’ event, beating Donna Service.
