Festival of Pool underway at Michelin club

The annual Ballymena Festival of Pool got underway at the weekend at the Michelin Athletic Club.

Among the events lined up in the coming fortnight are:

3 a Sides Tuesday 25th February registration 7pm start 7-30pm £5 per person

LEAGUE

Meanwhile, Connolly’s ‘B’ beat Michelin Masters to draw level with their opponents at the top of the Ballymena Towers Pool League.

Fairhill Dreamers 4, BUSC 2: Sean Brannigan got the home team of to a good start when he beat Dennis Keenan in straight frames.

The match was all square when Marc McMullan defeated Ricky Allen also in straight frames.

Social Club went into the lead when Eddie Fleck beat Linzi McClelland by a 2-0 scoreline and this gave the Social Club a 2-1 lead in the match.

That was as good as it got for the Social Club and they lost the next three games in game four Glenn Mairs beat John Fleck 2-0 and this included an eight-ball clearance in the first frame.

Guy Rodgers had to come from being one down to win 2-1 against Ross Hill and in the last game Gareth Montgomery also had to come from behind against Brian Boyd to win 2-1.

Diamond Duffers 0, Fairhill Hustlers 6: Hustlers raced into a 2-0 lead through George McCullough and Richard Campbell who beat Jason Olgilvy and Steven Anderson both by 2-0 scorelines.

In game three Paul Hayes came from being one down to win 2-1 against Darren McFetridgeto make the match score 3-0 for the Fairhill Hustlers.

Robert Graham increased the lead by beating Matthew Peacock in straight frames.

Ritchie Irwin made the score 5-0 to the Fairhill when he defeated Tam McMaster by a 2-1 scoreline and in the final game Justin Kilpatrick had to come from being one frame down to win 2-1 against Chris McGarry to complete the whitewash.

Ballee Rollers 1, Ballee Black Ballers 5: Black Ballers struck first through Peter Moore who had to come from behind to beat Stefan Armstrong 2-1.

Lewis Boyd doubled the lead when he defeated Shane Hillis by a 2-1 scoreline. In game three the Rollers pulled one back through Adrian Browne who defeated Neil Weir 2-1.

In game four Paul Smyth restored the two game difference when he beat David Calderwood in straight frames for a 3-1 match score to the Black Ballers.

Dean Robinson made it 4-1 when he defeated Frazer Young by a 2-1 scoreline and in the last game Allister Law wrapped it all up when he defeated Dean Greer by a 2-1 scoreline.

Connolly’s B 4, Michelin Masters 2: Ryan Foster got the B team off to a winning start when he beat Alan Rainey by a 2-1 scoreline.

Masters hit back through Drew Sloan who beat Alan Davidson in straight frames to level the scores and Michelin then took the lead when David Armstrong beat Brett McLaughlin by a 2-1 score after being one down.

In game four Pat McAnally levelled the match when he beat Rick McMaster by a 2-1 scoreline.

Connolly’s took the lead through Barry McLarnon who defeated Alan Armstrong in straight frames and in the final game the outcome was the same when Dean Dunlop defeated Brian Hanna also in straight frames for a final score of 4-2 for Connolly’s B and a big win against their nearest rivals.

Coach Bar 3, Connolly’s A 3: David Carlisle got the home team off to a good start when he beat Joey McNally in straight frames.

Pat McAnally (snr) levelled the scores when he came from being one down to defeat Paul Gray 2-1.

In game three the Coach took the lead again when Raymond Lynn beat Sean Donnelly by a 2-0 scoreline.

Once again Connolly’s levelled the match score when Niall McElroy beat David Gillespie in straight frames.

In game five Connolly’s took the lead for the first time wheh Kevin Scullion beat Darren Gilmore by a 2-1 scoreline.

In the final game K.D.Crabbe beat Johnny Walker in straight frames to secure a share of the spoils.

Michelin Inbetweeners 4, Diamond Dazzlers 2: Michelin Inbetweeners raced into a 3-0 lead by winning the first three games all by 2-0 scorelines, their winners being Gary Ormandy, Chris Penney and Philip Houston who beat Malcolm Graffin, Brendan O’Mullan and Ruairi O’Conneell respectively.

In game four the Diamond pulled a game when Chris Gordon defeated Gareth Rowe by a 2-1 scoreline.

In game five Adrian Rourke beat Lee Wright in straight frames to make the match score 3-2 for the Inbewtweeners.

In the final game the match was won by Stewart Frew when he defeated Ian Boal in straight frames for a final match score of 4-2 to the Michelin Inbetweeners.
