Festival takes top billing in local pool circles

THE Ballymena Festival of Pool is underway with a bumper programme of competitions over the next fortnight.

Having commenced on Sunday with the individual competition, a number of other events are scheduled for this week, as follows:

Tuesday 26th February and Wednesday 27th February - Cup and Shield Competition - 8pm start, registration at 7-30pm.

Friday 1st March - Seniors and Captains competition - 8pm start, registration at 7-30pm, £3 per person.

Sunday 3rd March - Doubles Competition - 2pm start, registration at 1-30pm, £3 per person.

Tuesday 5th March - Three a Sides - 8pm start, registration at 7-30pm, £3 per person.

Friday 8th March - Legends Cup - 8pm start, registration at 7-30pm.

Sunday 10th March - Scotch Doubles - 2pm start, registration at 1-30pm.

Meanwhile, in the Ballymena Towers Pool League, Michelin Masters continued their surge for the league title with a thumping win over Connolly’s ‘A’.

Michelin Masters 6, Connolly’s A 0: Drew Sloan put the Masters into the lead when he beat Pat McAnally by a 2-0 scoreline, helped on his way by an eight-ball clearance in frame two.

David Armstrong doubled the score when he defeated Kevin Scullion in straight frames.

In game three Sean Donnelly won the first frame for Connolly’s but lost the game 2-1 to Alan Armstrong to make the score 3-0 for Michelin.

The next two games were won in straight frames for Michelin through Rick McMaster and Alan Rainey who beat William Mitchell and Rory McCormick to make the match score 5-0 for Michelin Masters.

In the final game Jimmy Knowles had to come from one frame down to win 2-1 against Joey McNally to complete the ‘whitewash’. MOM - Jimmy Knowles.

Coach Bar 5, Fairhill Hustlers 1: George McCullough got the away team off to a good start when he had a win in straight frames over Paul Gray but this was as good as it got for Hustlers.

In game two Aaron Erwin levelled the scores with a win also in straight frames over Derek Dunlop.

The next two games both went the same way with Fairhill winning the opening frame only to lose the games 2-1, the Coach winners being David Carlisle and David Gillespie who beat Paul Hayes and Robert Graham to leave the score 3-1 in favour of the Coach.

In game five Darren Gilmore beat Justin Kilpatrick by a 2-1 scoreline and in the final game KD Crabbe had a win in straight frames over Ritchie Irwin. MOM - Darren Gilmore.

Spotty Dogs 6, Social Sports 0: Ian Boal got the Spotty Dogs off to a good start when he beat Joni Millar in straight frames.

Robert Artt doubled the score with a 2-0 win over Eddie Fleck and Damian White made it 3-0 to the Portglenone side when he defeated Richard Turtle also in straight frames.

Malcolm Graffin increased the lead to 4-0 when he beat Dennis Keenan 2-0 and when Brendan O’Mullan defeated Richard Campbell also in straight frames this left the match score of 5-0 to the Spotty Dogs.

In the final game Chris Gordon defeated John Fleck by a 2-0 scoreline to complete a perfect night for Spotty Dogs, who didn’t drop a single frame.

The match between Connolly’s B and Michelin Inbetweeners will be played at a later date.
