Festive footy spirit goes on show as North End United hold Christmas blitz

Ruairi Campbell was again the toast of the U13s at the weekend when he weighed in with five of the goals in their 8-0 win over Moira.

Taking his total goals for the season to twenty, the Northend striker was in unstoppable form at the weekend for the Ballymena boys. John Brady, Niall Craig and Philip Kyle completed the scoring for Northend, in one of their best performances of the season.

In the National League, the U17s travelled to Belfast on Friday night for a match against St. Oliver Plunketts and came away with a good 2-0 win, with Kyle Jackson and Stephen Hare scoring the goals. Elsewhere the U14s and U15s both lost their matches to Greenisland and Cookstown respectively.

Northend United Youth held a Small Sided Games Football Blitz at the Showgrounds on Saturday for the U10 age group and what a day of football all the teams served up on a very cold morning in front of the large crowd of parents and family members who came to support their team.

Northend took the chance to invite friends of the Club who are now on a winter break from their respective leagues including North Belfast United and Carniny Youth as well as three Northend United Youth teams, who played out some fantastic football with goals galore and the young players winning loads of admiration from the watching crowd with the skills that they produced during the games.

Northend United Youth would like to thank Neill Coates from Hunky Dorys and Johnny Hector from Vyomax Nutritions who kindly sponsored the Blitz and provided refreshments for all the children who took part and those watching the games.

Due to the success of this Blitz, Northend will be holding another Festival of Football in the New Year were again they will be inviting friends of the Club to a great day of football.

UNDER 10s - BLITZ

Northend United 2 North Belfast United 1: It was the Belfast side who edged their noses in-front on six minutes when a long range effort soared over Niall Devine’s outstretched hand. Caolan Lennon made a number of strong runs down the left-hand side and as the pressure built, it was a well placed shot from Peter Bristow which levelled the score on ten minutes.

North Belfast still looked dangerous on the break and struck Northend’s bar before Kevin Cosgrove put the wee blues ahead with six minutes remaining.

Northend United 5 Northend Youth 0: Caolan Lennon made a powerful run through the middle for the opening goal on four minutes with Peter Bristow adding a second three minutes later.

Shortly after the break United extended their lead with an excellent strike from Jack Adams. Owen Campbell got a reward for his tireless running shortly after when he notched United’s fourth and Kevin Cosgrove scored the last goal of the game following some excellent build-up play.

Northend United 3 Carniny Youth 3: It was Carniny Youth who took the lead a little surprisingly against the run of play on nine minutes after the wee blues had failed to convert a string of chances. Carniny scored a second moments before the break.

Within four minutes gone Peter Bristow won the ball in midfield and drilled a shot low into the bottom corner. By this point Northend were on fire and Owen Campbell pulled another goal back two minutes later with a neat finish. Within a minute Kevin Cosgrove smashed home a loose ball on the edge of the box and it seemed a matter of time before the wee blues went ahead.

Northend United 1 Carniny Amateurs 2: It was Northend who edged ahead on six minutes when Peter Bristow was first to re-act to a breaking ball on the edge of the box and slotted home his fourth of the day. Carniny responded well and scored an equalizer two minutes later. It was Carniny who benefited from a stroke of luck when their striker saw a splendid save by Jack Adams fall favourably on the rebound and the ball being bundled into the goal.

UNDER 13s

Moira FC 0 Northend United 8: They got off to a great start when Ruairi Campbell put them 1-0 up after 4 minutes. The same player put them 2-0 ahead after 8 minutes. Ruairi grabbed his hat-trick to put Northend 3-0 ahead on 12 minutes. Ruairi then turned provider for his strike partner John Brady who smashed the fourth into the roof the net, to put Northend 4-0 ahead. Not to be outdone, Ruairi scored his fourth on 26 minutes and an incredible fifth on 30 minutes, to put Northend 6 - 0 up on the stroke of half-time. Niall Craig scored an incredible 25 yarder 5 minutes into the second half, to put Northend 7-0 ahead. Philip Kyle grabbed Northend’s last goal of the match, 18 minutes into the second half.

UNDER 14s – Lisburn League

Northend United 1 Greenisland 3: In defence, Alex O’Boyle and Anthony Shaw were on top of their game but could do nothing to prevent Greenisland taking the lead on twenty minutes, when their striker scored in a goalmouth scramble.

However Northend equalised straight away when Daniel Bell won a corner. Kuba Babuszewski’s inswinging corner went straight into the net, beating keeper and defenders alike.

With almost the last kick off the game, Greenisland got the third goal to kill off the Northend fightback.

UNDER 15s

Northend United 0 Cookstown Youth 4: Two early goals sent Cookstown on their way in this game.

The second half was only minutes old when Cookstown got the goal that killed off the match. A good move down their right wing found their striker clear of the Northend defence and as the Northend keeper, Lewis McFall came rushing out, and the striker slid the ball past him into an empty net.

Cookstown went four up when the Northend keeper misjudged the flight of the ball from a free-kick and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

COACHES AND COMMITTEE MEETING

There will be a final coaches and committee meeting of the year on Tuesday, December 10 at the Michelin Club from 7.00pm to 8.30pm, where our Chairman is planning something special. All teams must be represented.

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE
