First-time visitor Jonathan claims Broughshane tournament success

Jonathan Wilson from All Saint's, Tullylish claimed top prize at the Broughshane PFA bowling club annual singles tournament.

Jonathan shaded a close final with David McCullough from Ballymena Golf Club as another successful tournament reached its conclusion in the Knockan Road clubrooms.

The game was still in the balance on the ninth end with Jonathan leading 9–7 but it was David who lay two shots.

With his final delivery, Jonathan drew a superb bowl off his own backhand finishing dead weight to the jack to move 10 – 6 ahead.

A single on the final end gave Jonathan the title on his first visit to the tournament and denying a Mid-Antrim win.

First round:

Chris McKnight (Cookstown HS) 10 - Dessy Hamilton (St John’s, Gilford) 5.

“The tournament was full every night and in total, 160 players entered the tournament from all parts of Northern Ireland and from as far away as County Donegal.”

“We are also delighted to say that the tournament raised a total of £1,150 for McMillan Cancer Support, Antrim which included an after supper collection of £303 on finals night.”

The players’ prizes were presented by Paddy Johnston who has been a club member since the club was formed in 1972 and who remains a very active club member.

The McMillan Charity cheque was presented by Club Vice Chairman, James Wasson.
