Fishing season nears its finale

IT'S hard to believe that we are now into the final month of the fishing season.

Fishing has greatly improved over the last month on the Clady river.

Several big floods in September brought great water conditions and allowed a good run of early autumn salmon to enter the river.

The continuing rain then held the river level up resulting in many anglers enjoying some good catches. Fish have generally been in the 2 - 5lb range, but there have also been reported catches into double figures. For visiting anglers day tickets are still available until the 31st October from Fullans Supermarket, Portglenone.

The Harry Doherty Memorial Cup was one of the best competitions to date, G Webb won with 2 salmon for 11lb 90zs and the runner up was D Henry with a great fish of 10lb 10ozs.

Lower water levels and bright conditions made fishing conditions difficult for last Saturday's J McCalister cup, winner was J Brownlow and runner up S O'Neill both with trout just under 1lb.

The last competition of the season takes place Saturday 23rd October, starting at 10am from the club house car park.

All members are asked to make a big effort to fish this one and support the competition secretary for the all the effort put in to running the competitions.
