Emeka Onwuka won his 3rd title of the season in the 11 years 48 kilo class with a strong display of pressure fighting against Thomas Doherty of the Gleann club in Belfast. Emeka continues his unbeaten run and is being noticed in many boxing circles as a force to be reckoned with in the 48kilo division.

Lewis McKee and Ronan Tierney also picked up gold medals in the 15 years 66 kilo and 13 years 46kilo class. This is Lewis’ 3rd final and having lost the previous two romped home on a points verdict after having his opponent on the canvas with an short sharp right hook in round 2 and forcing him to take an 8 second standing count.

Ronan Tierney really has been the surprise package of the pack having came from the Geraldine Donnelly Irish dancing school next door a few months ago to pull on the boxing gloves. With ample craft in footwork and movement around the ring Ronan showed his hands can move also with fantastic skills in slipping shots and crisp combinations to win his final on unanimous decision of the judges.

Francis Duffin who also has just joined us a few weeks ago defeated club mate Sam McCullough in the final of the 11 years 46 kilos division.

Both lads put on a lively bout and done themselves proud. Unfortunately for the club the two lads were in the same category and after both winning their semi final bouts the inevitable happened and they met in the final. the lads are club mates and sparring partners and they both acted as young professionals throughout.

Odhran Ward was defeated in the semi final in his division after a tough bout to lose on a split decision. But he will bounce back.
